Fishing at Javors Lucas Lake

2012 Public Fishing Season Schedule

The Macon Water Authority (MWA) continues to provide opportunities for public education and recreation at its facilities, including public fishing on the Authority's drinking water reservoir -- Javors Lucas Lake.  Drinking water reservoirs in Georgia are regulated much stricter than recreational lakes; however, quality fishing is available at Javors Lucas Lake.

The 2012 public fishing season schedule at the Authority's Javors Lucas Lake is as follows:

* Fishing season begins on Friday, March 2, 2012.

* Beginning Friday, March 2, and extending through Sunday, April 1, Javors Lucas Lake will be open for fishing three days per week on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

* From Thursday, April 5, through Sunday, May 27, Javors Lucas Lake will be open four days per week on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

* Fishing also will be available on Monday, May 28, 2012 for the Memorial Day Holiday.

* From Friday, June 1, through Sunday, July 1, Javors Lucas Lake will go back to being open three days per week on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

* Javors Lucas Lake will be open on Independence Day -- Wednesday, July 4th -- as well.

* The Lake will be closed for public fishing from Monday, July 2 (except for July 4th) through Thursday, August 30, but will re-open on Friday, August 31, which is the Labor Day Holiday weekend.

* Javors Lucas Lake will be open on Labor Day -- Monday, September 3rd -- as well.

* From Friday, August 31, through Sunday, September 30, Javors Lucas Lake will be open three days per week on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

* During the month of October, from Friday, October 5, through Sunday, October 28, Javors Lucas Lake will be open three days per week on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, but from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

* Sunday, October 28, will be the last day of public fishing on Javors Lucas Lake during 2012.

* The Lake will be closed for public fishing and boating during the months of November and December, as well as during the months of January and February of 2013.

Javors Lucas Lake was dedicated on November of 2006 to honor long-time MWA Board Member and current Vice-Chairman Javors J. Lucas.  The MWA drinking water reservoir holds an estimated 6.5 billion gallons of water at normal full pool, providing the ideal habitat for a variety of fish, including bream, bass, and catfish.
